Lake Anna is a beautiful area of Virginia that is a great place for a camping trip. The area first became noteworthy when gold was mined here from the opening of the Goodwin Goldmine in 1829 through the 1880s. The lake was created in 1971 to provide cooling water for Virginia Power’s nuclear plant. The next year saw development begin on the park, and it opened to the public in 1983.
Attractions at the Lake
One of the main reasons that people love coming here is that there is so much to do. Of course, the activity list begins on the lake itself. People enjoy swimming, boating, fishing and water skiing on the lake. There is a beautiful beach along the shore to enjoy. There is a bathhouse and concession stand at the beach to make visitors’ outings here more comfortable.
As well as all the activities on the lake, there is lots of wilderness to explore around the lake. If you like trails, you will love the 13 miles of multi-use trails that wind through the wilderness surrounding the lake. These trails are popular for hikers, joggers, mountain bikers and horseback riders.
Camping at the Lake
Loads of people stay at the campgrounds in Lake Anna State Park every year. There are 66 different campsites available. There are RV sites that include water and power. There are standard campsites intended for tents. There are also tent sites that include electricity. For more comfort, some people like staying in the bunkhouse or one of the cabins that are in the park.
Another option for campers at the lake is the Christopher Run Campgrounds. They have a nice marina right on the lake, boat rentals, cabins, tent campsites, RV sites, laundry facilities, hot showers and a store. This is a nice spot for people who want to have access to all the comforts of home while they are camping.
There are also vacation condos and bed and breakfast spots on the lake for people who don’t feel like roughing it at all.
Lake Anna State Park is a great place for a vacation. There are so many different types of sites available that everyone will be able to find a spot that is perfect for their needs. If you want to come here, it is a good idea to book early. Reservations can be made months in advance, and doing this will assure you of getting your ideal site.
